How to Apply for a Howl Program.
Step 1
Get to know us better by exploring our program pages, program costs, and learning outcomes.
Step 2
Option A
Ready to take the next step? Fill out an application form today! We are currently accepting applications for our upcoming 2024 Programs. We regularly update this page with additional program dates, application deadlines, financial assistance and other program offerings.
Option B
Interested in applying but still have some questions? Get in touch with a member of our team by clicking the button below. We are happy to answer any questions that you still have and get you started with the application process.
Step 3
Success! You have taken the first step towards joining a Howl Program. We will be in touch with you within one week after the application deadline (listed below) to confirm your spot in the program.
Upon acceptance into a Howl program, successful applicants are required to pay the program deposit (program dependent) to secure your spot.
Pay-what-you-can program fees.
Howl strives to use a “sliding scale” or “pay-what-you-can” approach for program fees, as funds allow. The idea behind this approach is that people pay the amount that they are able to for services, events, and items. Those with access to more resources pay more and thus help others participate in the program. For a sliding scale approach to work, it relies on truthfulness, respect for complexity, deep self-reflection, and accountability. These values are at the heart of our work and our community, which is why we ask prospective participants to consider them as part of the application process. When you apply for any Howl program, we will ask you to provide a self-assessment of your level of financial need. For more information about our approach, check out our program costs page.
When our team conducts selection process for our programs, we anonymize your application form and remove your program fee selection. This ensures that our assessment and selection process is as unbiased as possible and selection is not made according to how much you are able to contribute. All applications are assessed based on the same criteria.
Due to funding availability, some programs have set program fees (for example the March 2025 Rockies Exploration). If cost is the only thing preventing you from participating in a Howl program, we encourage you to let us know as part of the application process. We will work with you to find a program that works for you or to secure additional financial support.

We will be in touch with you shortly after the application deadline. If it’s been a couple of days and you still haven’t heard from us, make sure to check your spam folder in case we’ve ended up there!
2. Complete forms.
Complete and submit any forms that we have requested from you including criminal records check, emergency contact information, participant agreement, and medical information.
3. Research.
We encourage you to learn a little bit more about the territory you are visiting before arriving, as well as the weather for the time of year. We are happy to share some learning resources with you so you can familiarize yourself with some of the challenges and opportunities!
4. Make travel plans.
